Controls Engineer III – Data Center Controls & Infrastructure
Overview

As a Systems Engineer III, you’ll play a crucial role in managing Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) improvement projects within cutting-edge data centers. This position blends engineering expertise, technical leadership, and project management to ensure the performance, efficiency, and reliability of critical facility systems. You’ll be the key connection point between design, operations, and stakeholders—driving results through precision, collaboration, and deep technical understanding.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering field, plus 5+ years of controls experience; or 10+ years of relevant controls experience in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with industrial controls in critical environments such as data centers, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, or oil & gas.
- 4+ years of project or vendor management experience, including RFPs, bidding, change orders, quality control, and submittal tracking.
- Proven ability to manage scope, schedule, and financials of complex technical projects.
- Experience reviewing, developing, and troubleshooting control logic, programming, and sequences of operation.
- Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate with project leaders, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
Nice to Have Skills
- Experience with HVAC Controls or Electrical SCADA systems (design, configuration, and installation).
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as MQTT, BACnet, and MODBUS.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering documentation, electrical/mechanical diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- Experience with data center design or MEP infrastructure.
- Certified Professional Engineer (PE) or Project Management Professional (PMP) accreditation.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s degree (MS) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls/Automation Engineering.
- Demonstrated record of success leading controls or automation projects in mission-critical environments.
Other Requirements
- Ability to travel locally to assigned data centers for site visits, troubleshooting, and vendor supervision.
- Comfortable supporting commissioning and ongoing operations activities in live data center environments.
