Design Engineer 4 (Hydraulic System) (# 8019)

Design Engineer 4 - (92935-1)
Brooklyn Park, MN
24 Months

Job Description
Position’s Contributions to Work Group:
- This position will focus on hydraulic system integration on Vibratory Soil Compactors (SCOM).  While focused on hydraulics, you will also interact with other systems on the machine including structures, powertrain, engine, and electrical.  You will be part of a global design team with partners in Brazil, China, and India.
- We have five active SCOM New Product Introduction (NPI) projects underway with many more planned in the future.

Why Client? “Whether it be ground-breaking products, best in class solutions or a lifelong career, you can build what matters to you at Client. With 150 locations in countries around the world, what you create at Client travels and helps people around the world. You can collaborate with the best minds in the industry, complete meaningful work and continuously grow and develop through our various opportunities. Here, you can do the work that matters.”

Why this Role? The SCOM team is on the leading edge of technologies like autonomy and automation, fuel efficiency, and performance to solve our customers’ toughest challenges.  The need for these technologies is rapidly accelerating, and you can be a part of implementing these designs across our SCOM product line with a focus on quality and cost.

Typical task breakdown:
- Placement of components like pumps, motors, valves in the machine and routing hoses to connect components
- Complete drawing packages and coordinate the release of hydraulic system drawings
- Participate in prototype machine builds to find and fix hydraulic system issues prior to production
- Collaborate with all systems on the design team and cross functional business partners to ensure hydraulic system designs meet quality, velocity, and cost targets

Interaction with team and structure:
- The worldwide SCOM design team is 100 people strong across all locations and projects.  Collaboration with the team in India occurs during the morning.  Sometimes there are meetings at night with team in China.
- The Mpls based team is around 30 people.  The team is organized by machine system (chassis, electrical, hydraulic, etc).  You will have your own desk and be sitting with other members on the SCOM hydraulic team.

Work environment:
- Open office environment attached to the production facility.  R&D shop and test site are within 15 minute drive of the office/factory.
- 5 days/week in the office.  8.5 hours/day with lunch.  Core hours are 9 am – 3 pm and the individual can flex on either side of the six core hours to fill out the 8.5 hour workday.

Education & Experience Required:
- Years of experience: Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or relevant field required.
- Degree requirement: 8-10 years experience required.
- Do you accept internships as job experience: Yes

Top 3 Skills
- Strong component design, 3d modeling, and hydraulic system integration skills.  The hydraulic system interfaces with many systems on the machine.  Space constraints require unique solutions to produce thoughtful designs that meet design for manufacturing requirements and challenging cost targets.
- Geometric dimension and tolerance training and application
- Ability to identify and clarify design tradeoffs across multiple solutions to select the best design through your knowledge of hydraulic components and systems.

Additional Technical Skills
- Hands-on experience with agricultural, automotive, or construction equipment

Soft Skills
- Working with a global team across time zones requires precise, clear communication on design interfaces.  Verbal and written communications are important when multiple systems occupy the same space claim, and teams need to navigate solutions that work for all business partners.

Disqualifiers/Red Flags/Overqualifications:
- The starting point for this role is modeling, integration, and releasing work supporting an experienced hydraulic system lead.  Those looking to design their own hydraulic circuits/schematics, conduct advanced hydraulic system calculations/simulations, and do their own component selection would likely be overqualified for this position to start.  Advancement to these skills is possible but not needed at this time.

Travel Requirement: 0-25%, DOMESTIC
Export Control Requirements: YES
