Department Description

The Records and Evidence team develops software for public safety organizations to manage all forms of data including digital evidence, electronic records, and crime analytics. We build products to serve large cities that need sophisticated, customized workflows to smaller municipalities that need cost effective, end to end solutions. All of our systems are built scalable and highly reliable. We provide both cloud and on-premises solutions.

These efforts are all in support of our hybrid cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for public safety customers. This team is part of the Software Enterprise division, which offers secure, reliable and efficient team communications, workflow and operational intelligence solutions for critical public safety and enterprise markets throughout the world.

 

Job Description

As the Director of Engineering, you will lead the team responsible for the design and development of the cross company big data platform and machine learning/AI platform. Reporting to the Vice President of Records & Evidence and Cloud Infrastructure Engineering, you will be the primary architect and technical lead for all engineers working on this platform. As such, you will be expected to demonstrate excellent leadership, coaching, and communication skills. You will lead the definition of requirements, KPIs, priorities and planning of engineering deliverables for the team.

 

Specific Knowledge/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent education
  • 15+ years of industry software engineering experience
  • 10+ years of programming experience in Java or C++ or C# or C or object-oriented programming
  • 5+ years of experience leading a development team
  • Experience in building big data and machine learning systems/platforms in commercially available software
  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Open Source Big Data Stack such as Hadoop, HIVE, SPARK, HBASE etc.
  • Experience designing and delivering large scale, 24-7, mission-critical data pipelines and features using modern big data architectures
  • Demonstrated experience working in large-scale data environments which included real-time and batch processing requirements
  • Strong understanding of ETL processing with large data stores
  • This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by us


Basic Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree
  • 10+ years of Software Engineering experience
  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer
