Job Description
Position Description:
This is a GIS advisor position with Metro’s Information Technology Services GIS
Division. This position’s primary responsibility will be the GIS liaison for
the Metro Fire Department. This position will perform analytical, technical,
and administrative work in the ongoing support of Metro’s Enterprise GIS system
and related GIS datasets as they relate to the Metro Fire Department. This is a
technical position requiring considerable skill in performing complex spatial
analysis tasks, independent judgement, and specialized experience and knowledge
of GIS applications, concepts, and database application design principles.
Scope of Work:
• Conduct use-case analysis of current business functions to identify
opportunities for improved efficiency through the incorporation of or
transition to GIS toolsets, while establishing GIS application and geospatial
data model requirements, addressing technical issues, and assessing training
needs in close collaboration with end users.
• Prepare and deliver compelling presentations to senior leadership, showcasing
new processes, workflows, and analyses, while effectively demonstrating their
impact on organizational goals and decision-making
• Communicate with internal and external technical resources to resolve
end-user issues and provide guidance to users on methods for correcting
problems
• Identify and define appropriate applications of the system and associated GIS
products
• Perform quality control processes on GIS data and attribute information
• Plan and communicate specific work tasks for database creation and
management, application development, and ongoing maintenance
• Prepare technical documentation including data specifications, user
requirements, and procedures
• Produce maps showing the spatial distribution of various kinds of data
• Produce reports on geographic data utilizing data visualizations
• Perform spatial analysis of both vector and raster datasets
• Publish and manage data in ArcGIS Portal and ArcGIS Online
• Conduct in-house training and tracking progress on system implementation and
application projects
• Understanding of the data, functions, and tasks that the GIS applications will
support
• Configure Esri solutions within ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, utilizing products
such as Field Maps and Survey 123
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s
degree in GIS or a related field from an accredited college or university. Must
have a thorough understanding and proficiency in geographic information system
technology and geographic principals. Metro’s Enterprise GIS platform uses the
ESRI platform, so the preferred candidate would have five or more years of
experience in using ESRI GIS systems and performing complex spatial analysis.
Experience analyzing with Fire Department or Public Safety datasets would be a
plus.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Extensive experience with ArcGIS Pro
• Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Online
• Knowledge of configuring ArcGIS Solutions including web apps and dashboards
• Considerable problem solving and troubleshooting skills
• Experience with management of Geodatabases, including tabular relational data
models and schemas and their implementation
• Familiarity with Industry standard quality control and assurance practices
such as data reviewer, attribute rules, geodatabase versioning, geoprocessing
tools, and queries
• Experience with Python, Tableau, AllSource, or ESRI Solutions for Public
Safety is preferred
