Software Engineering Manager

Our client is seeking a passionate, solutions-oriented, technical leader who can effectively lead an organization by making sound technical decisions, understanding business needs, leading people and is up for a challenge.  The Software Engineering Manager will be responsible for all mission critical software development services and solutions that support the client's firewall and security products and manage web development for internal and external web interfaces.  The manager will hire and develop great people, determine strategic and tactical priorities, and provide architectural vision.

The ideal candidate must flourish in a fast-paced environment and will inspire the development team to create innovative solutions, be an effective communicator, thrive on solving problems, always be curious about newer technologies, but in particular, can get stuff done.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead a team of Software Engineers in architecting, developing, testing and deploying software and security services for WatchGuard’s IT development team
  • Develop, mentor, coach, and grow existing staff and hire additional well-qualified personnel
  • Create an environment where team members understand the vision, are held accountable, meet commitments, and have strong software engineering discipline
  • Instill an agile approach to software delivery by working with product owners, increasing velocity by removing road blocks, and resolving inefficiencies in our processes and workflows
  • Inspire an innovative spirit and approach to creating solutions, solving problems, increasing our knowledge, and experimenting with newer technologies
  • Increase our level of quality by having high standards around code coverage, functional and integration testing, and automation
  • Partner with program manager to plan future roadmap and current sprints, understand and navigate through competing priorities, and provide work estimation
  • Listen effectively to key stakeholders and team members; communicates your direction, designs, and ideas with purpose and its desired outcomes

What you need to bring to the table:

  • BS degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline is required
  • 8+ years proven track record of technical expertise in software engineering
  • 5+ years of experiences working with Microsoft solution stack as developer including .Net, C#, MSSQL, PowerShell, Windows operating system, Windows server
  • 1+ leading software engineers and managing resources
  • Must have proven experience with object-oriented programming
  • Must have proven experience with .NET platform: C#, ASP.NET, MVC, WCF
  • Proven experience with MS SQL database design and development
  • Strong understanding of web technologies, Javascript, HTML, CSS; PHP/Drupal experience a plus
  • Experience with REST, XML, JSON, and/or web service experience
  • Experience with agile methodologies, lean, and CI; continuous delivery a plus
  • Consistent awareness of technical trends, competitive technologies, and industry best practices
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong technical, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Azure experience a plus
  • Possess a positive attitude
  • Be innovative and always want to learn more
