Job Title: Materials Manager

Location: Wilmington, MA (Onsite)

Contract Duration: 06 Month (Extendable)



Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Materials Manager to oversee shipping, receiving, inventory, and warehouse operations in a fast-paced manufacturing/R&D environment. The ideal candidate can build practical processes, manage high-mix/low-volume inventory, and create structure in a rapidly changing environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

Manage inbound receiving, outbound shipping, and material movement.

Maintain accurate inventory records, locations, cycle counts, and traceability.

Develop inventory tracking systems using spreadsheets, barcode tools, WMS, or similar solutions.

Organize warehouse layout, storage, kitting, and staging for production.

Lead a small team of warehouse/material handling personnel.

Coordinate with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to ensure material availability.

Develop SOPs, labeling, barcoding, and warehouse operating standards.

Identify inventory discrepancies, aging/obsolete materials, and process improvement opportunities.

Support future ERP/WMS implementation through clean data and disciplined processes.

Maintain safe, organized warehouse operations using 5S and lean principles.

 

Requirements

5+ years of warehouse/materials/inventory management experience in manufacturing.

Experience with high-mix, low-volume environments and large numbers of SKUs.

Experience building or improving warehouse processes.

Prior team leadership experience.

Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency with spreadsheets, inventory systems, barcode tools, or WMS.

Comfortable working in environments without a mature ERP system.

Experience in prototyping or R&D operations.

Database/data management experience.

 

Preferred

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, or related field.

7+ years of relevant experience.

Experience with ERP/WMS systems such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite.

Experience with BOMs, engineering changes, ESD-sensitive components, or hazardous materials.

APICS CPIM/CSCP or similar certification.

Experience launching warehouse operations or working in a greenfield facility.
