Job Description:
The main function of a mechanical engineer is to research and investigates the design, functionality, and maintenance of mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes. A typical mechanical engineer has the ability to make engineering drawings and read and interpret blueprints.
Job Responsibilities:
- Research, design, develop, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines and other mechanical devices.
- Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals to determine time and cost feasibility to complete projects.
- Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and make recommendation to maintenance crew.
- Assist drafters in developing the structural design of products using tools, equipment or software.

- Ability to make sketches, engineering drawings and common computations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawing, schematics and computer-generated reports.

Education/Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
- 2-4 years' experience is required.

- Drives continuous improvement through equipment, process, and facility enhancements that increase manufacturing efficiency, quality, and capacity.
- Performs engineering analysis and provides recommendations for manufacturing systems, equipment, training, and product design requirements.
- Collaborates with Quality, Operations, Maintenance, Safety and Engineering teams to evaluate projects, implement standard assembly processes, validate equipment readiness, resolve process issues and optimize facility space utilization.
- Supports capital planning, equipment acquisition, and process development activities as required for new product introductions and operational objectives.

Typical task breakdown:
- Identifying and implementing enhancements and modifications to equipment and processes (continuous improvement activities).
- Analyze requirements and make recommendations for facility systems, processes, training, equipment needs, and engineering product designs
- Complete both specialized and broad-based assignments / projects which may require collaboration and integration with other functions
- Evaluate projects and prepare feasibility studies to define desired results, assess value proposition and determine project plans
- Analyze, provide specifications and perform acquisition for new or replacement assembly tools and equipment
- Perform capital forecasting correlation and reporting as it relates to new product introduction, product capacity increases, equipment replacement and process continuous improvement
- Improve space utilization in manufacturing and office spaces
- Develop and implement assembly processes in line with Client standard processes
Interaction with team:
- Collaborates closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to support production objectives, resolve technical issues, improve and document processes, optimize workload distribution across production bays, and implement tooling and equipment enhancements.
Team Structure:
- Member of the Manufacturing Engineering team, working with other Engineers, Production Planners, and Robot Technicians.
- Part of the larger Technical Services team and Operations organization, working closely with Facilities & Maintenance, Logistics, Quality and Safety to support manufacturing performance and equipment reliability
Work environment:
- On site manufacturing environment with time split between workstation activities, validation documentation, equipment reviews, and hands on floor support.
Education & Experience Required:
- Years of experience: 2-4 years
- Degree requirement: Bachelor's degree in engineering required.

Top 3 Skills (Required)
- Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
- Manufacturing Equipment & Processes: Knowledge of the mechanical, electrical, and logistics equipment used in manufacturing; ability to safely operate, maintain, update and store them. Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.
- Problem Management Process: Knowledge of manufacturing problem management processes, methodologies and techniques; ability to use a disciplined approach to bringing that problem to a successful resolution.
Additional Technical Skills (Desired):
- Prior experience working in a high-volume manufacturing environment
- Experience with Creo, AutoCAD, and Geneo
- A thorough knowledge of manufacturing concepts (Lean Manufacturing, 6-Sigma, Quality Management Systems, etc.)
- Project management experience and/or PMP certification
- Lean Certification such as Six Sigma Green or Black Belt
Soft Skills (Required):
- Detail oriented, proactive, organized, safety minded, and comfortable working with production teams in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
Disqualifiers/Red Flags/Overqualifications:
- Red flags include limited interest in hands on floor support, inability to work on site, weak equipment troubleshooting experience, or lack of comfort documenting validation results and corrective actions.
