Job Description:
Summary: The main function of a mechanical engineer is to research and investigate the design, functionality and maintenance of mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes. A typical mechanical engineer has the ability to make engineering drawings, and read and interpret blueprints.
Job Responsibilities:
- Research, design, develop, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines and other mechanical devices.
- Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals to determine time and cost feasibility to complete projects.
- Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and make recommendation to maintenance crew.
- Assist drafters in developing the structural design of products using tools, equipment or software.
Skills:
- Creativity, verbal and written communication skills, analytical and problem solving ability.
- Team player and detail oriented.
- Ability to make sketches, engineering drawings and common computations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawing, schematics and computer-generated reports.
- Previous experience with computer applications and software related to engineering field, such as Computer Aided Design (CAD).
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
- 5-7 years experience required.
Position’s Contributions to Work Group:
- Support of staff functions – modest financial analysis and facilitating of change requests, execution of minor top-level bill of material changes
- JT model downloads and governance
- Tracking and inventory of dozens of supplier sourced components for new builds
- Build book creation, build support for prospective new designs

Typical task breakdown:
- Will depend on the day.
Interaction with team:
- Supporting 3-4 person local team for high level changes on current designs
- Collaboration with 20+ engineers across multiple teams for new designs
Team Structure
- Technical leads directing day-to-day work
- Staff engineers might also request occasional support on various projects
Work environment:
- In-office environment, 90%+ engineering
- Lab builds, 50% engineering + 50% lab technicians
- Potential PPE gear – glasses and gloves
Education & Experience Required:
- Years of experience: 5-7 years
- Degree requirement: B.S. minimum,
- ME with 5+ years
- NO 2 year degrees
