Position Summary

We are seeking a Retail Field Specialist – Merchandising to support retail stores within an assigned geographic territory. This is a hands-on, field-based position focused on merchandising execution, store operations, product placement, planograms, inventory, and building strong relationships with store management and vendor partners.

The selected candidate will visit assigned retail locations based on a weekly schedule provided by the manager. This position requires someone who is comfortable working independently in grocery/retail environments and can identify opportunities to improve product placement, sales, inventory levels, and overall store execution.

This is a 100% field-based role. Candidates will work in assigned stores Monday through Friday. Mileage and toll expenses are reimbursed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute retail merchandising programs, store resets, and planogram changes according to company and manufacturer specifications.
  • Review SKU performance and assist with SKU rationalization to support productive store layouts and product assortments.
  • Analyze sales movement, consumption trends, gross margin, inventory, and other store-level information to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Review item ranking reports, discontinued items, and new products to support store resets and merchandising decisions.
  • Conduct product resets in coordination with vendor personnel and maintain accurate records of completed resets.
  • Use handheld scanners/CDTs and planograms to execute merchandising activities accurately.
  • Prepare reports, price surveys, and planogram recommendations as requested.
  • Work with store management and personnel to resolve product, merchandising, inventory, and service-related issues.
  • Provide feedback to management regarding store conditions, service failures, customer concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Promote white-sheet and pallet/direct-shipment programs to store personnel.
  • Support store grand openings, including:
    • Resetting store sections and product areas.
    • Assisting with warehouse and DSD deliveries.
    • Moving products from pallets to hand trucks or U-boats.
    • Assisting with lifting and positioning shelves.
    • Removing cardboard and operating a baler.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of retail systems, processes, and merchandising standards.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with store management, employees, vendors, and customers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
  • 4–5 years of retail merchandising, grocery, department management, or related field experience preferred.
  • Experience working directly in grocery, retail, CPG, or a similar consumer-facing environment.
  • Knowledge of grocery, dairy, frozen foods, and general retail product categories.
  • Experience with merchandising, planograms, store resets, inventory, or product placement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Comfortable using handheld scanners, CDTs, or similar retail technology.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules and store requirements.
  • Supervisory or team-lead experience is a plus.

Physical & Field Requirements

  • This is a 100% field-based position requiring regular travel to assigned retail stores.
  • Must be comfortable standing, walking, bending, reaching, and working in a retail/grocery environment for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move products, cases, shelves, and other store materials as required.
  • Must be comfortable assisting with store resets, deliveries, merchandising activities, and grand-opening support.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required depending on assigned territory.
  • Mileage and tolls are reimbursed according to company policy.
