Summary:
We’re in search of Senior
Cybersecurity Specialist to operate and support state-wide KY K-12 security
services, including firewalls, Active Directory, VPN, DNS, DDoS protection, and
Microsoft 365 Defender. The role requires strong expertise in troubleshooting
complex Tier-3 issues while collaborating closely with school districts,
vendors, and internal technical teams. The individual will also contribute to
incident response, risk assessments, audits, and major security initiatives,
with occasional after-hours support as needed.

suited for individuals who can be present on-site weekly.
Job Description:
This position will be assigned to the
School Security Services Team to maintain supported security services that our
office within KDE provides to the 171 school districts across Kentucky and KDE
employees. This role involves direct collaboration and troubleshooting with
school district technical staff, vendors, partners, and other KDE technical
teams to ensure effective support and service delivery. In addition, this position will assist with
creating strategies to maintain our current services and serve as a
cybersecurity role for the team. These services include a large Managed
Security Services (MSS) Premises-Based Firewall Solution at each site, a single
active directory forest with 180 domains servicing over 750,000 users, multiple
Microsoft 365 Online offerings, and many other critical, high visibility
identity and security services. This role may require work outside of standard
business hours occasionally, to ensure the proper functioning of supported
systems and the timely completion of critical deliverables. These
responsibilities will be determined at the discretion of the manager and/or in
accordance with the organization's policies.
Responsibilities:

Perform
firewall management, rule set configuration, validation, and advanced
troubleshooting for KDE and all KY K-12 school districts.?
·
Provide
operational support and management of the KY K-12 Enterprise Active Directory
environment in cooperation with Microsoft and other internal teams.?
·
Manage
and maintain an enterprise remote access VPN solution for all KY K-12 users,
including configuration changes, applying updates, and troubleshooting issues.
·
Serve
as a technical project resource for major security initiatives in KY K-12
school districts.
·
Manage
statewide DNS infrastructure, including configuration changes and
troubleshooting DNS-related issues
·
Manage
enterprise DDoS mitigation services within a Managed Security Services group.
·
Investigate
and respond to alerts and incidents using the Microsoft 365 Defender suite.
·
Assist
with security risk assessments, vulnerability scanning and remediation, audit
responses, and open records requests.?

Provide
Q&A and Tier 3 escalation support for KY K-12 school district customers,
directly troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues. Assist or lead
technical conversations, troubleshooting sessions, and presentations to these
customers.
