Sr. Network Engineer - Hoffman Estates, IL 

Role Purpose

Responsible for design, configuration, day-to-day support, and capacity planning for the global LAN and WAN infrastructure including routing and switching devices and their interconnecting cables. Specific duties include configuration development, asset management, platform specification and performance monitoring.

Main Accountabilities

  • Design LAN/WAN/WLAN network solutions
  • Develop router and switch configurations
  • Establish network device platform standards
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and investigate security-related, information systems’ anomalies based on security platform reporting, network traffic, log files, host-based and automated security alerts.
  • Maintain, analyze network and host-based security platforms: Application (Layer 7) Firewall; Firewall and network access controls lists
  • Administer the global IP addressing scheme
  • Establish cabling and fiber standards
  • Specify and order all networking hardware and materials
  • Coordinate networking incidents, issues and changes using ITIL methodology
  • Administer network device maintenance programmes and contracts
  • Specify, deploy, maintain network monitoring tools
  • Work as a resource / member to project teams
  • Provide leadership on medium to large Network projects
  • Responsible for communicating / coordinating Networking changes within the organization
  • Responsible for maintaining strong vendor relationships with major suppliers
  • Provide technical leadership within the IS /IT department
  • Project Management skills required

Performance Measures

  • Maintain Network availability at a 99.99% level
  • All network devices have an appropriate maintenance plan
  • All network device SLAs are met
  • All maintenance programs on hardware and software is cost effective and current.
  • IS/IT networking audit issues are addressed and updated on a quarterly basis.
  • Work within specified budget levels
  • IS/IT procedures and processes along with corporate IS/IT guideline are known and adhered to with the Group


  • Expert level hands-on working experience with networking hardware and operating systems
  • Expert level and hands on experience with BGP, EIGRP routing, MPSL, WAN, and LAN support
  • Network security experience; hands on Palo Alto experience is advantageous  
  • Hands-on experience understanding of structured cabling principles
  • Hands-on Netscaler experience is advantageous
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on Excel, Word and Visio
  • CCIE preferred
  • Understanding of  ITIL methodology
  • Proactive in problem solving and ability to see the “bigger picture”
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills
