Senior Software Development Engineer – Media Codecs & Telemetry Innovation

Required Skills

  • Telemetry & Observability Engineering (4+ years) – Proven expertise in designing telemetry event schemas, defining metrics, instrumenting pipelines, building and maintaining dashboards, and working with large‑scale telemetry datasets to drive actionable insights.
  • Codec & Media Pipeline Expertise (4–6 years) – Deep understanding of H.264, HEVC, and AV1 encoding/decoding behaviors, media pipelines, color formats (8/10‑bit, 4:2:0, 4:2:2, 4:4:4), profile variations, and failure modes.
  • Hardware Validation & Test Development (3–5 years) – Strong experience in authoring functional video validation tests for GPUs, SoCs, and accelerators, including verifying codec feature functionality, performance, and correctness.
  • Analytical Problem-Solving – Proficiency in uncovering patterns in telemetry and test results, diagnosing root causes, and recommending instrumentation or validation improvements.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration – Demonstrated ability to work closely with engineering teams, hardware partners, and validation groups to deliver cohesive, high‑quality solutions.

Nice to Have Skills

  • Experience with HLK (Windows Hardware Lab Kit) test development and driver certification processes.
  • Familiarity with MVHV (Media/Video Hardware Validation) scenarios and workflows.
  • Knowledge of error detection for rare or profile‑specific codec issues.
  • Exposure to performance benchmarking for encode/decode pipelines.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 4–6+ years of professional experience in media codec engineering, hardware validation, or telemetry/observability roles.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work on‑site in Redmond, WA as needed.
  • Availability to collaborate across multiple time zones.
  • No travel is anticipated for this role.
