Manufacturing Engineer 3 / Sr. Controls Engineer - (1815-1)  
Casa Grande, AZ - Onsite 
8 Months Contract 


The Sr. Controls Engineer will play a lead role in advancing Client's goal of being a highly automated manufacturing company. S/he will work closely with external equipment suppliers and internal teams including Engineering, Quality, Production, and Maintenance to design, program, test, and commission complex automation systems.

ROLE
- Be a subject matter expert in industrial control systems for the manufacturing engineering team. Participate in developing process and equipment concepts for RFQs to suppliers.
- Create hardware, software, safety, and maintenance standards for industrial controls used in manufacturing applications such as conveyance, material handling, dispensing, fastening, joining, inspection.
- Collaborate with equipment suppliers in selection of controls components, design of electrical cabinets, design of machine-mounted controls hardware, power distribution, and cable management.
- Collaborate with equipment suppliers in software development for programmable controllers, human-machine interfaces, industrial robots, and machine vision systems.
- Manage interfacing of equipment with higher-level factory systems such as MES and SCADA.
- Integrate with the project team on all stages of equipment development from conception to launch.
- Track Overall Equipment Effectiveness and lead continuous improvement projects to improve metrics.

SKILLS
- Proficiency in control system design including selection of components, creating power distribution and network architecture diagrams, creating detailed electrical schematics, documenting sequence of operation and functional requirements.
- Detailed knowledge of Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens PLC, HMI, IO, Drives hardware and software.
- Proficiency in programming PLCs using Ladder Logic, Function Block, and Structured Text language.
- Proficiency in Ignition SCADA software including advanced features such as scripting, database connections, enterprise administration.

- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Profinet, Ethernet/IP and IO Link. 
- Experience in interfacing PLCs with peripherals such as variable frequency drives, servo drives, machine vision systems, barcode scanners, RFID readers, etc.
- Familiarity with industrial robots and knowledge of interfacing PLCs with robots including standard and safety IO to manage robot program execution, prevent collisions, and ensure operator safety.
- Knowledge of computer networking concepts – OSI model, managed switches, subnets, VLANs
- Ability to program in higher level computer languages – Python, C#, SQL
- Detailed knowledge of equipment safety standards such as ISO12100, ISO 13849 and ISO 10218.
- Familiarity with commonly used safety system components such as safety relays, light curtains, area scanners, guard monitoring and guard locking devices.
- Hands-on experience in executing discrete automation applications from concept through design, programming and commissioning.
- Working knowledge of CAD software including AutoCAD and CATIA.
- Strong organization skills – tracking schedule and open items, creating meeting agendas and minutes.
- Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate clearly and
- professionally at various levels both inside and outside the company.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer engineering or related field
- 2-5 years of experience in a Controls Engineering role in the automotive industry
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time. 


Purpose of this team: 
Focuses on implementing innovative technologies and processes to improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. This involves designing, developing, and optimizing manufacturing systems, often utilizing automation, robotics, additive manufacturing, and digital manufacturing techniques. The department also manages budgets, tracks project progress, and ensures adherence to company standards.
- Reason for the request: Mid-size launch.
- Surrounding team & key projects: Process and equipment work for Mid-size. 2 on powertrain: 1 on battery line, 1 on drive unit. 2 in body shop.
- Typical task breakdown and operating rhythm: Working with equipment suppliers on design and development of automation systems for manufacturing.
- Interaction level with manager/team: Automation engineers, manufacturing engineers, design engineers, equipment suppliers, process engineers. Operation supervisors.

Candidate Requirements 
- Years of Experience Required: 5-7+ years
- Degrees or certifications required: BS in Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering degree.
- Best vs. Average: Team player. Be able to take direction. Good verbal and written skills with team, managers, and stakeholders. 
- Client experience preference: No
- Performance Indicators: Quality of work. Buy-off and feedback from stakeholders. Projects stay on schedule. Ability be hands-on to meet schedule. Good quality output. Thoroughness and diligence in work which will show up in the launch process.

1. CRETA or similar modeling software experience a must
