Supply Chain Engineer 3 (# 8123)

Supply Chain Engineer 3
Peoria, IL - Onsite
12+ months contract

Position’s Contributions to Work Group:
This role leads to the definition, development, and deployment of a real time transit object from a business process and operational perspective. The focus is ensuring inbound supply and transportation data is trusted, explainable, operationally actionable, and directly usable by planners, logistics teams, and execution systems (e.g., Clear to Build, supplier collaboration, transportation execution).
The role sits at the intersection of supply chain execution, transportation, supplier collaboration, and analytics, and is accountable for turning fragmented inbound signals (ASNs, tracking, ETAs) into a single, consistent, enterprise ready in transit view that supports real-time decisions.

Reason/motivation for request:
-    Backfill

Why Client? “Whether it be ground-breaking products, best in class solutions or a lifelong career, you can build what matters to you at Client. With 150 locations in countries around the world, what you create at Client travels and helps people around the world. You can collaborate with the best minds in the industry, complete meaningful work and continuously grow and develop through our various opportunities. Here, you can do the work that matters.”

Why this Role?
This role directly supports our new 2030 growth strategy under Modern Manufacturing. It will provide significant development, exposure and individual growth opportunities.

Typical task breakdown:
Own the Business Definition of the In Transit Object
•    Define what “in transit” means from a business standpoint — including minimum required fields, confidence levels, timestamps, and lifecycle states.
•    Ensure the in transit object reflects how the business actually plans, sequences, builds, and mitigates risk.
•    Establish clear rules for what is trusted vs. informational, and how planners should interpret and act on the signal.

Translate Operational Needs into Clear Requirements:
-    Work directly with material planners, logistics, transportation, procurement, and supplier teams to capture real use cases and pain points.
-    Convert those needs into clear, testable business requirements that engineering teams can build against (epics, features, acceptance criteria).
-    Ensure requirements explicitly support line continuity, execution decisions, and exception management, not passive visibility.

Drive End to End Process Alignment:
•    Map the end to end inbound flow (supplier ? carrier ? transit ? receiving ? production use) and identify where data breaks, degrades, or loses confidence.
•    Align ASN, transportation, and tracking processes so that data is linked, synchronized, and explainable across systems.
•    Define ownership and handoffs across business functions to avoid “orphaned” signals or manual workarounds.

Partner Closely with Technical Teams:
•    Act as the business counterpart to digital and data teams, ensuring solutions meet operational intent.
•    Review designs, data models, and logic through a business execution lens
•    Push back on solutions that are operationally unusable or misleading.

Enable Deployment and Adoption:
•    Support rollout by defining what success looks like at site level (how planners use it, how exceptions are handled, and what decisions move earlier).
•    Help shape training, communications, and operational guidance so teams understand how to use the signal.
•    Identify early adoption issues and course correct quickly based on real usage and feedback.

Apply Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Rigor
•    Analyze inbound performance trends, data gaps, and exceptions to identify root causes.
•    Use data to challenge assumptions, validate improvements, and refine business rules over time.

Interaction with team:
-     Work directly with material planners, logistics, transportation, procurement, and supplier teams to capture real use cases and pain points.
-    Act as the business counterpart to digital and data teams, ensuring solutions meet operational intent.

Team Structure:
-    Team member under enterprise capability owner for Modern Manufacturing. Senior executive level program ownership.

Work environment:
-    Primarily office, with on site factory visits as needed.

Education & Experience Required:
-    Years of experience: 5-7 years
-    Degree requirement: Supply chain, engineering, or related degree preferred.
-    Do you accept internships as job experience:  No.
-    Are there past or additional job titles or roles that would provide comparable background to this role: Supply Chain Manager/Engineer, Logistics/Transportation Consultant, Digital Product Owner

Top 3 Skills
•    Strong supply chain domain knowledge, with depth in transportation, inbound logistics, or supplier collaboration.
•    Demonstrated experience working with ASNs, shipment tracking, ETAs, and execution level supply signals.
•    Proven ability to operate between business and technical teams, translating operational needs into buildable requirements.

Additional Technical Skills (Required):
-     Advanced analytics in tools like excel, tableau, PowerBI and the like.
-    Digital requirements gathering and drafting

(Desired)
-    SQL querying and reporting
-    Prior development or technical product management experience

Soft Skills
(Required):
•     High analytical capability with comfort working in imperfect, fragmented data environments.
•    Clear, confident communicator who can challenge constructively, align cross functional teams, and keep work grounded in business outcomes.
•    Bias toward practical execution — focused on what improves line stability and decision making, not just visibility.
