Position
Overview:
Cabinet is seeking a qualified
TechnicalAnalyst to document the migration of Microsoft
Access databases to a new, separate database system. This role will bridge the
gap between technical teams and end users by creating clear, accurate, and
actionable documentation that supports a smooth transition, minimizes downtime,
and ensures data integrity. The selected contractor will need to have the
ability to create clear and comprehensive documentation for project
requirements. The ability to use consistent templates and styles for
documentation. Ensures that documentation is technically accurate, easy
to understand and aligns with business goals.
Responsibilities:
- Document
and map end-to-end data flows across systems, from field collection to lab
analysis to reporting.
- Analyze
and document Microsoft Access database structures, queries, and usage
patterns to optimize performance and accuracy.
- Work
closely with lab teams to understand data collection processes, and
reporting requirements.
- Develop
and maintain data dictionaries, process documentation, and workflow
diagrams for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate
with IT, scientists, and business stakeholders to ensure data solutions
meet both regulatory and operational needs.
- Proven
experience as a Business Analyst, Technical Analyst, or Data Analyst in a
data-driven environment.
- Strong
skills in Microsoft Access—including database design, queries, and
reporting.
- Familiarity
with environmental lab data (e.g., water quality, soil analysis, air
monitoring) and related regulatory requirements is a plus.
- Ability
to create clear, detailed documentation for technical processes and data
flows.
- Strong
analytical mindset with the ability to translate complex data processes
into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication skills for working with
both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
- Write and interpret SQL queries for Access (SELECT,
JOINs, WHERE, GROUP BY)
- Ability to extract required information for
analysis, reporting, or validation.
- Use Excel for data manipulation, pivot tables, and
charts.
- Create simple dashboards or reports in Access or
Excel to present findings.
- Identify trends and anomalies in Access data for
business insights
- Gather business rules and data needs from
stakeholders.
- Specify fields, data types, constraints, and
relationships.
- Link requirements to Access database design and
queries.
- Map how data flows through processes and how Access
supports them.
Key Deliverables & Responsibilities Include:
- Document
Migration Process: Write step-by-step guides, checklists, and
troubleshooting tips for moving Access databases to the new system.
- Collaborate
with Teams: Work closely with database administrators,
developers, and IT support to gather technical requirements, verify data
mappings, and ensure accuracy.
- Maintain
Documentation Repositories: Update and organize documentation in
a centralized system, ensuring it remains current after migration.
- Review
and Edit: Proofread and edit all technical content for clarity,
consistency, and correctness.
- Follow
Up: Monitor migration outcomes, update documentation as needed,
and address user feedback.
Candidate Qualifications & Requirements
- Strong
technical writing: Ability to produce architecture diagrams,
structured user stories, and formal requirement specifications.
- Collaboration:
Demonstrated ability to facilitate requirement-gathering workshops with
non-technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
- Database
Knowledge: Familiarity with Microsoft Access.
- Attention
to Detail: Precision in documenting technical steps and data
integrity checks.
- Analytical
Skills: Ability to analyze data structures, mappings, and
migration scripts.
- Adaptability: Be
open to solutions and flexible in changes.
- As
Needed: As needs of department changes, the ability to adjust to
